Charges Dropped Against CatsPlus
UPDATE: Allegations and charges against Cats Plus Converters in April 2022 have been dismissed and/or reduced to a misdemeanor. Originally three Cats Plus employees (and two customers who sold units to Cats Plus) were accused of illegally buying catalytic converters from individuals who did not have proper documentation to prove they own the vehicle the catalytic converter came from. Such documentation was required under a new state law passed last year.
The law, authorized by State Senator Jack Sandlin, increased violations to a level 6 felony, instead of a class A misdemeanor. The new legislation also meant that the illegal purchase of catalytic converters coul lead to a felony charge of concealing a valuable metal purchase, and four of the five individuals faced one such charge. That charge was dropped against the Cats Plus employees, and only a misdemeanor charge remained.
